Sleeping tips for expectant mothers

Sleeping positions are important especially for expectant mothers. From your final (third) trimester, sleep to your left side which gives the best blood flow for your baby, your uterus and your kidneys. Do not lie down flat on your back. Drink lots of fluids during day but not at night. Avoid fried and spicy foods to prevent acidity and heartburn.

Keep a number of pillows to sleep with your head in an elevated position. Exercise regularly for good blood circulation and to avoid leg cramps. Keep your stomach full by eating some snacks. This will also avoid nausea. Use regular / special “pregnancy” mattresses or pillows for good sleep. Mastering relaxation or breathing techniques are good. Once the baby is born, a mother has to adjust her sleeping habits in accordance with the baby.
